Occam's Razor

Last night, Mom looks at me and says, "you need to get married. or live with somebody."
Really, she was talking about how I can get pretty ditzy about normal, everyday things like, leaving my lights on, or leaving the toaster oven on, or not using the simplest answer, and I really need someone to look after me who's not an engineer, like a husband or a competent, non-engineer roommate. But it disturbed me.
So now, I'm taking applications for a live-in partner. Not to replace my Roomie, but more to ride around in my car and follow me around to make sure I do things right, and live on my extra mattress under the bed. Direct applications to me, indicate competency levels.

Decision

Decided to go with the cable hookup. Very excited.

Fuse-ion

Mom blew another fuse in the apt. last night with the vaccuum. fortumately, there's one other circuit in the house, and my computer was plugged into it. And the fridge.

The Tan Truck

So, a few weeks ago, I had this dream that BN sold me his tan truck (which he doesn't own) at the SRC for $100. It was so real, that I fully expected to see a tan truck outside and my bank account $100 lighter. That week, I asked him for the keys and he said to just come over and get them. Time passes...
We're putting the boat away after water skiing and we pull into the yard where his dad has a garage and keeps lots of vehicles for restoration purposes. And there's a tan truck. Not worth $100, it'd make a better planter than a vehicle.
I wake up the next morning, after the people below me moved out, and in front of my then-apartment is: a tan truck, owned by a cleaning person.
So, driving back from Louisville the next weekend, I make the turn to work, and nearly get hit by: a tan truck.
First night in my new apartment, I leave and guess what takes my spot? yup, a tan truck.
There's a guy in the apt. building that owns a tan truck, I've seen him get out of it and go in. Mom met him, says he's cute and nice. I thought for a while it belonged to the guy below me, but his truck's black.
Is this some sort of fate or what?

geniuses on board

So last night, cooking dinner (bacon in the microwave) I think we blew a fuse. now, the only thing that lost power was that outlet, and, being the smart person I was, we were running the a/c and microwave from it. Great, we thought, no more a/c until it gets fixed. so Roomie and I go to wal mart for some things and we come back and borrow a staple gun from the downstairs neighbor (I remembered his name, this time) and I make a ghetto table (plywood with cloth stapled to it, then put on a few boxes) for the tv and vcr (and Nintendo!) and hooked up the tv. There's no cable line in the main room, so I used my fabulous cable splitter in Roomie's room to use the cable and an extention cable cord when I realised "Hey, we have extension cords!" And so, after living in the heat box for 4 hours, we hooked up extension cords and turned the ac back on. we are so smrt.

No fashion police here

So, my freshman year (4 years ago,) I got a beanie made with 'DDD' on it. Now, the Delta Shop is selling beanies just like it. What a trend setter I am.

Hey, that's my wood

At Lowe's last night, BN was helping me get some plywood to make my bed (read: he has a truck) and as I was getting the 2nd piece down, this employee comes practically sprinting down the aisle after hopping out of his fork-lift thing to "help" me get my side of the plywood down, even after I'd said, "no, I don't need help."
And that was his only purpose. He got right back into his forklift and took the 4 sheets of plywood down the aisle.
Yes, I'm a girl, but no, I don't need help lifting things unless I ask for it. I'm much stronger than I look; I lift weights.
And also, at Lowe's, it's happened several times that I'll go find a person to cut the wood I've chosen, asked him to cut some things for me, told him the measurements, held the sheet with the measurements and the checkbook, and then he asks the boy I'm with if the cut is correct, once it's cut. Maybe I should start going to Lowe's with a very girly girl, put uncombed hair in a ponytail, wear kahki pants, and a polo shirt that fits poorly. Then they'd have to talk to me, because then I'd be the obvious choice.

Decisions

Now that I have a dresser and a bookshelf, boxes are just flying out of the living room and the contents getting put away in their proper places. Hopefully, it will be clean enough that we'll have the tv hooked up and ready to go with the Nintendo by Thursday. I've got a line splitter, so we can play Mario Kart on 2 tvs! Yeah!!
Right now, however, Roomie and I are deciding upon our 'net hookup:
Verizon: $35/month, with the first 3 months costing $60 total
RoadRunner Cable: $45/month
Joink: Who knows, their website is poor
Verizon + Land based phone: $60/month, with a discount on the first 3 months
Votes? Other suggestions? I know Verizon doesn't play well with Rose, but I never had problems with it as a CS, except when Verizon was down all over town. ZL loves his cable, and the DDD's have Joink, which worked well when I was there.

My Shower

I am in love with me bathroom. I found the best shower curtains this weekend to replace the dark green, hard water-stained, clautrophobia-inducing curtains: Clear curtains with mesh pockets!!

That's all. Just wanted to declare my love for these beautiful bastions of the bathroom.
And give a special shout out on my Birthday #2, since we're the same person. Happy Birthday, WCP!

The best thing ever

My Landlady, WB, met me at the door yesterday with my fire extinguisher, oven cleaner, and a package from the coolest MA/CS ever, EMB. She'd sent me my birthday and graduation presents (Yours are coming, I promise.) Birthday was super-cool, a rubber duckie that red with horns. hehehe. Graduation...
a Flask!!!! the best thing ever!!! for times with bringing your own alcohol is cheaper. How many times have I needed one to add a little something to my drink on a cruise, or at a party, or during a very very boring class? It's the perfect fit to attach to my thigh when wearing a dress.

Mike- definitely on his last legs.

Family Emergency?

I have very sad news. Mike, my trusty... "personal companion" of a year, is dying. It's so sad. there's a crack in the top and he gets all sporadic with, uh, talking speed. not that it's always a bad thing, but it's plenty annoying sometimes. Little history: Mike was a gift from AMB of the Great Roommate Trip to the ABS in Effingham, and of the pair "Mike & Ike." (Ike was a present from me to AMB) In the event of Mike's death, services will be private and donations may be made directly to me.

On a brighter note, I set a new fastest time on Minesweeper hard yesterday- 131 seconds.

Hatred

You know what I hate? Sitting next to the bathroom at work.
Someone had bad mexican.

Poem for a very new mattress

Oh, new bed
you are so large
I can sleep
spread-eagle
and Elephant will not fall off

Oh, MY new bed
For you, I have no sheets
I put you on the floor
I use you to
less
than your full potential
but still, you hold me
at night
lay with me
at night
hog the covers
all day
You let me have the top

Attack of the Killer Calves

The move this weekend... Only BK came to help on Saturday. I was an un-happy camper by the end of the evening, making many many trips and having to go down one set of stairs, over 2 blocks, and up another set of stairs. Wash, rinse, repeat on sunday, and my calves are still killing me 2 days out, but I'm sure they'll look fabulous. Especially after the large bruise on my knee heals.
On the plus side, the new apartment was mostly clean, had some new paint, and I have an enormous bedroom! plus a room for my 3-door closet. Mom came last night to stay before flying out of Indy to see Sis in Hawaii, so the apt's cleaner, things are put away in the kitchen, a list of what I need to get and complain about has been made (there's no fire extinguisher or smoke detector in the kitchen with the gas stove and the oven's filthy. So if the oven catches on fire, I won't know about it to put it out, and I can just use the emergency candles to find my way.)
Now, all that's left is to find some sheets that fit a full, non-deep-pocket bed. Yeah, like that's ever gonna happen.
Anybody wanna visit before my roommate moves in Friday? I have 2 beds now...

Moving Day

Has been moved to Saturday.
Apparently, the boys in my apartment aren't able to move out until tonight. Might wander down that way tonight to 'measure the staircase' and see if they need any help moving their stuff downstairs. And to see if the one moving to below me is hot. Pre-emptive strike.

Triumph of outdated tech

This evening, calling BN to help me disassemble my desk was a challenge. My former housemate, who moved out while I was gone for the weekend, took my cell phone charger, and my phone's dead. with a 5 minute drive to work, it doesn't charge much. so I fired it up and was gonna get the number when BK knocked on my door to see if I had time to go to Bw3's. I didn't, and my phone died again. so, 4 tries later (no juice at all) I finally get BN's number and go to call it. But, the battery on the house phone's dead 'cause I never charge the thing since I only get telemarketers. Run downstairs and get my 'new' phone: the powder-blue rotary phone from Amma's house. Works like a champ.

At least it was a good "Queer Eye..."

I hate packing. not so much the big, move crap around packing, but more the little stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere, except maybe in that little bit of space you have in 15 boxes. Oh, and then, getting off my bed, I smacked my foot on it, cutting it right after I'd packed and moved the med stuff to the "move me" pile, on the bottom of a stack, and while the towels were in the wash. To top it all off, while returning some stuff to my tool box I discovered that DRC had not only borrowed my screwdriver without my permission, left my tool box in his car for a good 8-9 months, but had also ruined my screwdriver. That... is not something any person should do- borrow tools, ruin them and then not replace or _tell_ the owner that you've ruined it. Don't ever do it.

Da Borthday

Last weekend was great! The concert on Friday was awesome, I had a really good time. The first guy was really good and Counting Crows really do put on a good show, like BN said. John Mayer must have known it was my birthday eve, 'cause he sai he was in a good mood. He started with Sis's favorite song (why Georgia) and ended with mine (3x5) as the encore. He also had a really great jam thing with the opening guy and once he was finished, asked for a copy of that becuase it was so good. I'm gonna marry that man. Just gotta figure out how to meet him. Saturday, we ate lunch at the "cheezborger cheezborger, no pepsi "coke" place. Then Cirque du Soliel was cool, the twins who do the straps are HOT, and we stopped at an Indian restaurant for dinner on the way home. We dallied on the way out, so we saw the performers setting up to practice before the next show that night. Wish I could do the stuff they were doing, you know, holding myself up on a spinning hoop 15 feet about the floor with my neck. sounds like fun. Finally, water skiing Sunday rocked and I wasn't too sore yesterday after my 'impressive' falls. Good thing I've been lifting weights, huh? Not too many people out on the reservoir and the weather wasn't too hot or too cold, mostly cloudy.
I passed the flight physcial yesterday, so I have my student ticket back. Gonna look to start into lessons next week. Right now, I'm packing all night getting ready to move on Friday. My room's nearly cleaned out and in boxes, if you can believe I have a clean room.

But I didn't order any pizza...

So, sitting at work, FP comes in from getting a drink and says the Papa John's guy came along and delivered a pizza for me and DC (his birthday's monday)
It's the large cookie kind that said Happy Birthday in those hard frosting letters, had "DC" and "Palila" in frosting, and came in a pizza box. It was awesome. the Chocolate Chips were a little melty, but damn, was it exquisite.

Where the hell are my sunglasses?

In honor of my last day of being 21, I'm spending it hungover. BK made me my 'birthday present' last night- a big, purple ginormous margarita thing. it was an entire blender full of alcohol and ice. Good thing the beginning of the morning was spent on a company field trip to look at a new office. And that the lights are still off in the office.

(Cake)

It's true. I Heart My Birthday. And my friends are the Greatest.
My Birthday's on Saturday, but the whole weekend is going to be awesome. BK won tickets to the John Mayer/Counting Crows concert on Friday night, so we're going to that. (!!!) Then Saturday, I'm headed to Chicago to see Cirque du Soliel's Varekai. (!!!) Sunday is off to Wabash to go waterskiing. (!!!) Monday, I'll be really tired (I'm sure) and getting my student certificate for flying back (hopefully).

Marketed towards 91rL5

finally, someone capitalized on a game for gamers and their not-so-bored girlfriends...

Go Online for Help

The internet was down and the automated voice help person really suggested that when Vy called and said our online DSL was not working. (gotta call and try a bunch of keywords to really get your stuff fixed.) 1 whole hour of work spend not doing anything, not that I had anything to do.
On the bright side, I did set a new best score for minesweeper: 4 seconds on beginner.

Countdown

Birthday in: 4.5 days

Hawai'i Bound

Went to go see my sister on her last weekend on the continent before she heads off to Hawaii for school tomorrow. Scared some poor checkout boy at Kroger Friday midnight, must've thought we were drunk or high with what we were buying and giggling about. Told the same story 3 times during checkout and called Dad to see if he really didn't want that head cheese. (Mmmm?)
Waxed my car with blue wax. Not really sure if it was worth the effort, but I haven't seen it in good light yet. (Drove Sis's car back to work) I'll wax her car and find out. Not like she'll see it in 6 months.

Are you getting Enuf?

Dr. Enuf is really the best stuff ever. Created to get iodine into the mountain folk of Appalachia, it's good for the mid-afternoon slump, morning beverage, hangover cure. Can a drink get any better?
